Exposition: Two Belgian Cartists

Buy tickets Expo

Description

From 13 July to 26 August, in parallel with the Renault anniversary exhibition, Autoworld has invited two artists, Ever Meulen and Patrick van der Stricht, who have a passion for mainly American cars, to exhibit their slightly humorous and ironic drawings in a “black box” installed in the centre of the exhibition. An exhibition to explore exclusively at Autoworld this summer.

Ever Meulen is certainly the better known of the two. He was born in 1946 in Kuurne under the name Eddy Vermeulen. Ever trained as an artist and began his graphic career in 1970 at Humo. He has turned out to be the most influential illustrator in Flanders and his reputation extends well beyond our national borders. He is the author of countless posters, he designs stamps for the Dutch and Belgian postal services and has received numerous awards in Belgium and abroad. He has created a very personal imaginary world in which classic car bodies often play the principal role. Several books have been dedicated to him, most recently Automotiv (2013).

Patrick van der Stricht was born in Ghent in 1944. By his own admission, he grew up surrounded by Dinky Toys and beautiful cars. He soon began to draw with his twin brother. Spurring each other on, they both became architects. In 1960, Patrick won two awards in a drawing competition organised by the magazine Tintin to create designs for fictional French car company Vaillante. “My car won the Le Mans 24-hour race. (Number 13 is at the start)”, explains Patrick with a smile. Since then, he has continued to draw. Not only houses and architectural perspectives, but also car-themed illustrations, posters and greetings cards. His designs are not only amusing but also exceptional in terms of their numerous details and references. Last year, his most important works appeared in a compilation called “The Pen & Ink Garage of Patrick van der Stricht”.
